  Keynote Speaker

The Seattle chapter of NIRI is pleased to announce Lynn Michaelis as our Keynote Speaker.

Lynn Michaelis, Vice President of Markets and Economic Research and Chief Economist of the Weyerhaeuser Co., manages a staff of professional economists. The group is responsible for providing key decision makers with objective insights on changing market conditions critical to operating and strategic decisions. The group succeeds by finding new and creative ways to help the executive team think about the future, including use of the scenario thinking process.

Michaelis routinely meets with financial analysts and customers to discuss economic conditions as they relate to Weyerhaeuser and the forest products industry.

In his 35 years with the company, Michaelis has served in several other positions or on special assignments. In 1978-82, Michaelis was the planning manager and then business manager for the Composite Panels Division (particleboard and medium-density fiberboard). He initiated the effort to enter oriented strand board in 1980, which became a major business for Weyerhaeuser.

He led a team that restructured the Composite Panels business in 1989. He is routinely involved in major capital projects or acquisition efforts, plus participated in annual senior management team strategic review of each business for more than 20 years.

Michaelis is a graduate of Washington State University where he received a PhD. and M.A. in Economics. He earned his B.A. degree with honors from the University of Utah.
